LICORICE PIZZA

De zonnige westkust van Amerika in de vroege jaren ‘70. De 15-jarige Gary zoekt zijn weg nu hij te oud wordt om als kindacteur nog aan de bak te komen. Hij ontmoet de 25-jarige Alana, die met weinig enthousiasme werkt als assistente van een schoolfotograaf. Wanneer de veel jongere Gary haar duidelijk ziet zitten, reageert Alana wat verveeld en lacherig, ook al raakt ze - tot haar verbazing - steeds meer geïntrigeerd door Gary.

Acht Oscarnominaties heeft schrijver/regisseur Paul Thomas Anderson reeds achter zijn naam staan, voor topfilms als Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, Inherent Vice en Phantom Thread. LICORICE PIZZA is zijn meest ontroerende, maar ook meest ongedwongen film tot nu toe. Een heerlijke, nostalgische ode aan opgroeien in de jaren ‘70 en de magie van jonge, maar ingewikkelde liefde met personages die je nooit meer zal vergeten. Naast een rits cameos van topsterren (Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, Tom Waits!) zijn het vooral de twee jonge hoofdacteurs die hoge ogen gooien: actrice/muzikante Alana Haim en Cooper Hoffman, de 18-jarige zoon van de betreurde Philip Seymour Hoffman. Ongetwijfeld twee namen waar we nog veel van zullen horen.
