Gene Bervoets, Karl Eriksson, Gowie Meeusen, Ben Bervoets, and Bo Spaenc had a band: Plastik Bags. They played loud, raucous punk-like music with absurd surrealist poetry in the Antwerp dialect - something reminiscent of a mix of Kafka, Marquis, De Sade, and Klein Klein Kleutertje. Lyrics and music that sounded like paintings by Dali, but where you could easily replace the liquid clocks with imaginary genitalia.

Regularly, The Plastik Bags were on posters with The Kids, De Kommuniste, De Brassers, De Kreuners, Radeis, and other bands from the 70s. Good enough to tear down the building. "Break everything down" was not for nothing the slogan that echoed everywhere in the 70s, on and especially off stage. So, an ordinary musical performance was never the ambition of The Plastik Bags; it had to be colorful and eyebrow-raising.

By 1980, it was all over. Each went their separate ways, except for sporadic reunions in 1996 and 2018. It wasn't until 2021 when Gene Bervoets threw up a ball and Bjorn Eriksson, son of former Plastik member Karl, hit it full force.

In 2021, Bjorn started the restoration and reconstruction of some worn cassette tapes, found in the basement. After a thorough polishing and with the help of all the Plastik Bags and sons and daughters (The Mikroplastiks) a fantastic eclectic exclusive double-LP will be released at the end of March 2024 with screen-printed artwork by 'De Klup' (Antwerp collective, including Larsen Bervoets ). In a limited edition of only 500 pieces. An archaeological find and a unique time document!

The quality of this Antwerp band is finally coming to the surface. Plastik Bags, Mikroplastiks, non-degradable material! An amazing trip down memory lane.

On 26/3/24 'PLASTIK BAGS', essentially the debut album of the group, will be presented at De Studio.
