Exciting things have been happening in the musical melting pot of the Middle East in recent years. It's about time we succumbed to the invigorating rhythms and rousing melodies of the Mediterranean. Welcome to this evening of Turkish and oriental music, curated and programmed for you by Antwerp DJ and producer Merdan Taplak.

Merdan Taplak, child of a Turkish father and Antwerp mother, was as a child infused, injected, yes even indoctrinated with Turkish folk music. As a DJ and producer, he has been searching for the intersections between classical folk music and the new modern tendencies.

It will be an evening full of pungent crossover music with live bands and DJs. No tacky folk but extremely danceable grooves. Pin the date, bring your friends, come and discover. Haydi bakalım, let's go!

Line-up

Merdan Taplak Orkestar (live)
Sounds from all over the world combined with electronic dance music. The combination of Merdan's DJ skills and an atypical Balkan Beats brass band are the ingredients for an amazing live reputation at home as well as abroad.

Rizan Said (live)
The King of Keyboard himself, Rizan Said, is one of the most influential musicians in Syria. In his own words, he brings the 'original dabde dance sounds of Syria', exciting rhythms that you might know from that other famous Syrian musician: Omar Souleyman. Rizan Said often works with Souleyman: he is the man who provides him with those characteristic heady dabke beats. Grease up those dancing legs!

Serdar Demirbaş (live)
The Dutch Serdar Demirbaş will definitely make you dance with his Turkish folk music.

Aso Asin (DJ)
This Antwerp DJ plays music from all corners of the world. From sultry jazz and funky beats to electronic music. For Haydi he will bring his collection of 60's & 70's Turkish disco, funk and psych records.

Rebel Up (DJ)
Rebel Up is a collective that hops between Brussels and the Netherlands. For more than ten years, they have been setting the tone with global sounds between world music and electronic bass.
